Holly Nixon,
Design Director

Holly Nixon brings a keen eye for graphics and branding in addition to years of international experience to V Starr, where she has fulfilled her love of design and the tropical environment of South Florida since joining as our Design Director three years ago. Born in England and raised in Australia, Holly graduated with an Advanced Diploma of Interior Design from The Design Centre Enmore (DCE), Sydney’s creative hub and home to many of Australia’s best-known designers, and immediately jumped into the field in Sydney. She worked on all aspects of design of large scale retail projects in Australia, the Philippines and China. Seeking to expand her design experience on an international level, she landed in Las Vegas in 2012 to work in the hospitality and entertainment design sector. While in Las Vegas, Holly focused on multiple hotels, casinos, restaurants and entertainment venues locally as well as in Albuquerque, Sacramento, Kansas, and an integrated casino resort in Phu Quoc island, Vietnam.

Modera Metro II

blu27 at Edgewater

Inspired by the textures and colors of the waterfront, the team at V Starr used a cool gray and blue palette in the blu27 at Edgewater clubhouse to capture the spirit of the nearby Biscayne Bay. Striking light fixtures in the business center stand out against chic wood elements as well as leather and suede upholstery.

1550 Crystal in Washington D.C.

Two large-scale art installations anchor V Starr’s furnishings for the lobby and conference spaces in this multi-family project in Washington, D.C., led by senior designer Sanna Tilley. Cubes, by Stuart Hartley, was a major point of collaboration: Tilley worked with the artist to pull precise Pantone colors from the space, resulting in a piece that is an important extension of palette and continuity. Michael Sirvet’s In-Situ, a shimmering silver triptych mounted on black leather panels, brings organic motion to an otherwise structured interior. The result is a sophisticated space that beautifully unifies a neutral palette, pops of colors, and elegant details.

Resilience is a word we continue to gravitate towards as we face the challenges of a politically and economically unstable landscape, and a value that has led us to focus on uniting underprivileged communities with a history and culture that stays strong in times of hardship. This shines through in our design of the vibrant interiors at affordable housing apartments, Valencia Pointe, in San Diego, CA.

In addition, our talented team continues to make a splash: Senior Designer, Bobbie Olson was selected as one of 18 rising stars in the hospitality industry by Boutique Design magazine, while Design Director Holly Nixon and I discuss the changing hospitality landscape in Conde Nast Traveler.

Best Wishes to You All,
Sonya Haffey

Town Lantana

Taking cues from the British Colonial era, V Starr looked to the influence of nearby beaches and the surrounding lush settings at the interiors of Town Lantana. Steeped in travel and romance, the interiors include playful elements like the “Monkey Bar” with fully custom floor to ceiling mural walls and a crystal chandelier complete with its own metallic monkey.

Atlantico at Alton

Our work for Atlantico at Alton in Palm Beach, FL reflects a Cape Cod meets Santa Barbara concept. We softened hard architectural elements like iron and stone with subdued shades and plush, flowing fabrics, paired with lots of natural light to keep each space feeling bright and fresh.

West Half

We reflected the influence of baseball in a high-end, luxury interior lounge at West Half, a new residential complex in the Ballpark District of Washington, D.C. The discreet references include sophisticated stitching details that resemble those found on a baseball and glove, vertical wood elements that reference the barrel of a baseball bat, and metal inlays that pay tribute to traditional baseball shoes.
